Introduction / History

The Parintintin are an indigenous people who live in the state of Amazonas in Brazil. They are part of the Tupi-Guarani linguistic family. Their history includes periods of violent contact and resistance during the twentieth century, followed by increasing interaction with Brazilian society.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Parintintin communities are located near rivers and forest areas. Hunting, fishing, and farming are important for daily survival. Social life centers on the village, extended family, and shared cultural practices. Contact with outside society has brought both resources and new challenges.
