Indonesians is a generic term for the hundreds of ethnic groups from Indonesia. There is a trade language, Bahasa Indonesia, but when it reaches the local level, it has so many borrowed words that Indonesians often cannot communicate with one another using that language.
Indonesians in Libya are few in number. They can be businessmen, students, or domestic servants.
Like most people, they are more likely to socialize with those from their country when they are in the diaspora, despite cultural, religious, and linguistic differences.
No matter where they live, Indonesians prefer to live with family members. Those in the diaspora often live apart from their families, something that takes them out of their comfort zone. They believe in showing respect to their elders and authority figures.
Like the Libyan majority, most Indonesians are Sunni Muslim. In both countries, they blend the practices of Sunni Islam with animistic practices. There is also a strong Christian minority among Indonesians in Libya that can reach out to Muslims.
Indonesians hate conflict. They must navigate the conflict between factions in Libya. They need God’s protection.
Pray for the Lord’s mighty hand to protect Indonesians in Libya.
Pray for Indonesian Christians to share the only Savior and the hope he provides with Libyan Muslims.
Pray for Indonesians and Libyans to learn of Christ, share Christ, and dedicate their lives to him during these dangerous times.
