All Sindhis were originally from the southeastern province of Pakistan, Sindh. Many Hindu and Sikh Sindhis left Pakistan for India after the 1947 Partition. Some of these Hindu Sindhi have migrated to Australia.
Hindu Sindhis are known for their resilience and business acumen. Slaughtered when they left Pakistan with nothing but the clothes they were wearing, many have built prosperous business enterprises. They have brought their skills to Australia.
Some Sindhis in Australia have retained their language of Sindhi at home while speaking English on the job or at school. Some speak English at home and as their first language.
Though there are Sindhi Muslims in Australia, almost three-fourths are Hindu. Hinduism is a catch-all phrase for the various religions of South Asia. They often worship certain gods in hope of gaining favor and good luck. Others worship these gods as a way of connecting with other Hindus in Australia, a country that is primarily Christian and secular-humanist.
The number of Sindhi Christian believers in Australia is very low. They need people who love the only Savior to take his name to them. They need the abundant life only Jesus Christ can offer.
Pray that believers in Australia will reach out and build relationships with their Sindhi neighbors.
Pray that Australian Sindhis would develop a spiritual hunger that would lead them to read the Bible and ultimately embrace Jesus.
Pray for a movement to Christ among the Australian Sindhis that will spread to South Asia.
