Panan in India
PUH-nan
The Panan are an ancient Tamil people and are mentioned in Old Tamil literature. Their age-old occupation is singing of hymns to Hindu deities. They were the main orators in the king's palace and acted as his ambassadors. They were also dancers. They are scattered all over but the majority live in the state of Tamil Nadu. They are also found in Kerala State and in Sri Lanka. Presently, some of them are tailors. Most of them are struggling economically, socially, and most importantly, spiritually.
Ministry Obstacles As Hindus, they will not look to Jesus Christ to be their only source of comfort and spiritual guidance. They have a strong tie to the Hindu religious system which makes them reluctant to seek and find the only savior.
Scripture Focus "He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake." Psalm 23:3
Scripture Prayer Pray that this people group will accept and follow the Lord’s direction and thank Him for giving them strength.
Prayer Focus There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Tamil speaking churches that can reach out to the Panan. Pray for them to act!
Pray for outreach teams to visit them and make sure they have the JESUS Film.
Pray they would know the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Pray there would be an increase in awareness of the teachings of the Bible.
