The Christian Valmiki Chuhra people are primarily located in Delhi and Punjab, India. Their main language is Eastern Punjabi, and they are part of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Historically, the Chuhra community has been associated with sweeping and sanitation work, occupations considered "polluting" under the Hindu caste system, which led to their classification as Dalits or "untouchables".
During the colonial era, many Chuhras converted to Christianity, seeking dignity, social acceptance, and spiritual renewal. Missionary efforts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries played a significant role in this transformation, offering education, healthcare, and a new identity to those marginalized by society.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Christian Valmiki Chuhras often live in urban slums or marginalized rural communities. Despite their conversion, they continue to face social discrimination due to their caste background. Many work in manual labor, sanitation, or low-paying service jobs, and are often denied access to better employment opportunities due to lingering caste prejudice.

The percentage of Evangelicals is unknown among Christian Valmiki Chuhra people. Their faith includes a mix of Catholic and Protestant traditions, and churches serve as vital centers for spiritual life, community support, and social upliftment.
While Christianity has brought hope and dignity, there remains a need for deeper discipleship, biblical literacy, and spiritual maturity. Some traditional beliefs and practices may still influence their worldview, especially in areas where access to sound theological teaching is limited.
