Introduction / History

Their main language is Telugu, a Dravidian language spoken widely in the southern states of India. Historically, the Adi Andhra have been part of the Dalit community and have faced social marginalization. Over time, many have embraced Christianity, forming a distinct Christian identity within the broader Adi Andhra population.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Christian Adi Andhra people live in urban and rural areas, often working in agriculture, construction, and various service industries. Education levels are improving, and many younger members are pursuing higher education and professional careers. Despite progress, they still face challenges related to caste discrimination and economic inequality. Community life is centered around family, church, and local networks that provide mutual support.

While the majority of Adi Andhra people practice Hinduism, the Christian Adi Andhra have embraced Christianity, particularly Evangelical and Protestant traditions. Christian media such as the Bible, the JESUS Film, gospel recordings, and radio broadcasts are available in Telugu, supporting their spiritual growth and outreach efforts.

What Are Their Needs?

They need continued access to discipleship and biblical teaching in Telugu to strengthen their faith and equip them for ministry. They need support in overcoming social discrimination, especially in areas where caste-based bias still affects daily life. They also need economic empowerment initiatives, including job training and small business support, to improve their livelihoods.
