Introduction / History

The Sarbaria people of Nepal are part of the Nepali-Pahari people cluster within the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Nepali, an Indo-Aryan language widely spoken throughout Nepal. The Sarbaria are also known by alternate names such as Karikar, Karighar, and Mistri. Historically, they have been associated with artisan and service-oriented roles within Nepalese society.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Sarbaria people typically live in rural and semi-urban areas of Nepal. Many are engaged in manual labor, craftsmanship, and agriculture. Their communities often face challenges related to economic development, education, and access to healthcare. Social life is closely tied to caste networks and traditional customs, which influence daily interactions and opportunities.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Sarbaria people primarily practice Hinduism, the predominant religious tradition of the Indian subcontinent. Hinduism among the Sarbaria includes worship of various deities, participation in temple rituals, and observance of festivals. There are many forms of Hinduism, each with its own beliefs and practices.

What Are Their Needs?

They need access to culturally relevant evangelism and discipleship, as there is currently no active church planting among them. They need improved access to education, especially in rural areas, to help break cycles of poverty and increase opportunities. They need healthcare services, particularly in remote regions where medical infrastructure is limited.

Prayer Points

Pray for the spiritual awakening of the Sarbaria people and for hearts to be open to the gospel.
Ask God to raise up workers and local leaders who can share Christ in culturally sensitive ways.
Pray for the translation and distribution of Christian resources in Nepali, including radio and audio materials.
Pray for healing and restoration in communities affected by poverty and social exclusion.
Pray for the establishment of churches and discipleship movements among the Sarbaria people.
