North Marquesan is one of the largest traditional languages in French Polynesia. It is differentiated from the South Marquesan dialect. Most remain at home, but a small number are in the United States.
Most North Marquesans in the U.S. are men who are working so they can send money to their families in French Polynesia. On a social level, they connect with others from the island nations.
North Marquesans, like the other peoples of French Polynesia, are Christian and have been for many decades. Like others who have had a church for more than 100 years, faith often weakens or erodes and is often replaced by secularism. Yet many hold onto faith in Jesus Christ and can offer his hope to others.
It is difficult for families to be separated. Ideally, there would be a way for North Marquesan families to stay together in the United States.
Pray for the Lord to raise up North Marquesans to expand their economy so they can keep their families intact.
Pray for a powerful work of the Holy Spirit to revive their churches, bringing forth good fruit.
Pray that soon North Marquesan disciples will disciple others.
Pray that those who venture far from home will become Christ bearers to the lost.
