Introduction / History

The two Krahn groups are within the Kru language family. They are divided between those who speak Western Krahn and those who speak Eastern Krahn. Most Eastern Krahn speakers are in Liberia, but a small number are in Côte d’Ivoire.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Many settlements are composed of an extended family acting as an economic unit. Each extended family has a headman, who offers sacrifices to the ancestral spirits. Each village (group of settlements) has a religious chief and headmen to handle village affairs and disputes.

Eastern Krahn society is patrilineal, where lines of descent and inheritance are traced through males. The eldest son inherits private property, while household property is passed to the father's younger brother.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Eastern Krahns are Christian, and they can be Christ’s ambassadors to others in West Africa.

What Are Their Needs?

Eastern Krahn villages need dependable medical care. They do not live close enough to hospitals to take care of emergencies.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to show himself powerful to the Eastern Krahns through a record-high harvest.
Pray for Eastern Krahn families to be drawn by the Holy Spirit to seek forgiveness and to understand the adequacy of Christ's work on the cross.
Pray that God will use the believers to share Christ with the Eastern Krahn.
Ask the Lord to save key leaders among the Eastern Krahn who will boldly declare the gospel.
