Introduction / History

The Katukina people are unique in their own myths, rituals, and forms of social organization.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Until a little over ten years ago, the villages were made up of a single communal house (maloca). Today, the villages consist of houses built on stilts in a regional style, usually housing a single nuclear family (father, mother, and children).
Each village has a chief chosen for his leadership ability and knowledge of the rites, mythology, and the "white people's world."
Marriages usually take place within the same village or community group.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Their beliefs are deeply connected to nature, origin myths, and beings with spiritual powers. There are many religious practices and rituals linked to shamanism.

What Are Their Needs?

Like most Indigenous tribes in the Amazon region, they need better structures for education, healthcare, and land demarcation. However, their greatest need is to see Christ revealed to them.

Prayer Points

Pray that the leaders will understand who the Lord is and share this vision with the villages.
Pray for a revival in the region that reaches them, and that when it comes, their hearts will be open and ready to receive the gospel.
Pray that idols, false gods, and religiosity will fall, so that the true God may take His place.
