Kodagas (A.K.A Coorgis) are a high-status community. They are very connected to the military and are famous fighters.
Their primary industry is running coffee plantations and doing tourism by hosting vacationers in "home stays" in their houses. It is a beautiful area, but they suffer from heavy materialism and are often deeply in debt.
They had workers in many occupations, such as potters, blacksmiths, carpenters, goldsmiths, and barbers. Their prosperity waned, however, and they have since sought other jobs, such as working on coffee plantations or engaging in various types of agricultural labor.
Both men and women are industrious and disciplined. Traditionally, families were led by the fathers. However, today the discontented younger generation is continuing to break down this system by becoming more individualistic. In addition to their work in the home, the ladies also bear the brunt of the labor on the farms.
They are animistic ancestor worshipers rather than strict Hindus. They worship the Cauvery River and believe water from its headwaters that springs on top of a mountain in a sacred temple can cure all ills.
They need financial planning and learning how to get out of debt. Many can use business development planning.
Pray for key leaders to hear the gospel, embrace it, and teach it to others.
